Ursolino Valletta
Luxury Guesthouse
The design aimed to respect and restore the building’s original architectural character, making only essential modifications to meet modern guesthouse requirements. The building’s façade remained mostly untouched, undergoing only light cleaning and restoration. Significant work included the removal of additional courtyard structures to install a passenger lift, the restoration of original stone arches, and the adaptation of the layout to enhance natural light and airflow.
The interiors focused on retaining the authentic textures and imperfections of the townhouse while updating elements like floors and ceilings. A custom-made cement tile was introduced to preserve the traditional aesthetic while adding a contemporary twist. The strategic use of oak paneling concealed service areas, and a restored stone staircase became a key feature.
A lightweight mezzanine was added to larger suites, and the roof extension was designed to blend old and new. Sustainable elements, such as custom steel ventilation louvers, were integrated throughout, while modern comforts were achieved without compromising the building’s historical charm.
